Guidelines for Student Admission into the University

Guidelines from the University Grants Commission (UGC) are strictly followed for admission into the university programmes. The admission criteria for admission of students into bachelor and master’s programmes are as follows:

Students under the following categories may also be considered:

Provisional admission is offered to candidates awaiting results of HSC/ A’ level and International Baccalaureate examinations.

Semester Registration

Students are required to complete their registration during the time announced by the university.  No Student will be allowed in class without having registration properly done.

Students must officially register in every semester in order to attend classes. A teacher may not allow you to attend classes and/ or submit class works or assignment unless your name appears on the official class list. Semester registration fee has to be paid in advance for next semester registration.

Without semester registration students name will not be put in the attendance sheet and the student’s attendance will not be taken for which student will lose attendance marks for the running semester. Therefore, it is important to complete semester registration for attending classes.

Open credit rules and regulations

In every semester, the date for registration will be notified. The student must be registered within the specified date usually within the first week of a semester/trimester. The semester tuition fee to be paid by a student will be based on the total course credits registered by the students in a semester and the per credit tuition fee in his/her enrolled programme. All fees are to be paid at the time of registration and are non-refundable except (i) where the University fails to provide a place to the students in a course and (ii) courses dropped by the students in the first week of registration. The students in such cases get a refund of the tuition fee, and other charges, if any, except registration/ admission fee.

Full-time and part-time students

Any student registered for a courses load of (9) credit hours or more in a trimester and of 12 (twelve) credit hours or more in a semester will be classified as a full time student. A student registered for fewer than 9 (nine) credit hours in a trimester and for fewer than 12 (twelve) credit hours in a semester will be classified as a part-time student in a semester (part-time student facility is not available now). Any student willing to take more than 15 credit hours in a trimester or more than 18 credit hours in a semester will require prior written consent of the respective Dean of the faculty.

Tuition and other Fees Payment

A student has the choice of payment method. The parent or guardian must sign to adopt one of the methods described below. All payments should be made through the following Bank in favour of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology.

All students have to pay tuition fees spread out in installments during his/her four years of study in the honours and master’s programmes. Students have the option paying tuition installments monthly or to clear their financial dues once before the midterm examination and again before the final examination. If this method is used, installments must be cleared minimum 2 weeks prior to the date of mid-term examination and three installments must be cleared minimum 2 weeks prior to the date of semester final examination in order to sit for the exam.

N. B.: No student will be allowed to sit for any examination if fees are outstanding.

Any student with outstanding installments will be struck off the course registration list and will have to re-register and pay a registration fee to continue study.It is important to remember that any debt owed by the student may prevent graduation or progression from one semester to the next.
